NBTC Certification for UAS (Drone) and Radar-equipped UAS
UAS (Drone) and radar-equipped UAS sold or imported into Thailand require NBTC certification for their radio systems. The control and data links across the 433 MHz, 2.4 GHz, and 5.8 GHz bands require SDoC, while the onboard radar system at 24 GHz requires Class A. A drone that incorporates both requires compliance with both NBTC applications.
How NBTC Classifies Drone Radio Systems
The NBTC defines two separate application names for drone radio equipment, each governed by a different technical standard:
- UAS (Drone) — the application covering control and data links at 433.05–434.79 MHz, 2400–2500 MHz, and 5725–5850 MHz, governed by the NBTC Announcement on Rules and Conditions for Radio Frequency Authorization for Unmanned Aircraft for General Use.
- Radar-equipped UAS — the onboard radar system application for the 24.05–24.25 GHz band, governed by NBTC TS 1038-2564.
Certification Requirements
| Application | Frequency Band | Max Transmit Power | Certification |
|---|---|---|---|
| UAS (Drone) | 433.05–434.79 MHz | 10 mW eirp | SDoC |
| UAS (Drone) | 2400–2500 MHz | 100 mW eirp | SDoC |
| UAS (Drone) | 5725–5850 MHz | 1,000 mW eirp | SDoC |
| Radar-equipped UAS | 24.05–24.25 GHz | 100 mW eirp | Class A |
Required Documents
For SDoC — UAS (Drone) application only:
- Technical specification or datasheet including wireless communication details
- Product photos
- Test report from an accredited laboratory
- Authorised declaration
For Class A — Radar-equipped UAS application (or combined submission):
- Technical specification or datasheet including wireless communication details
- Product photos
- Test report from an accredited laboratory
- ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation certificate and laboratory scope
- Authorised declaration
Where both applications apply, the Class A requirements govern the combined submission. No physical product sample submission is required.
Indicative Timeline
Additional time may be required if NBTC requests supplementary documents during review.
